What size surfboard to buy?

I’m a 5′8″ 120lb female and was wondering which would suit me best, a 7′3″ or a 7′9″ mini mal

Once you have taken lessons, go to the surf shop and rent a board a few times. Make sure that you love surfing and you want to stick with it before you buy a board. They are expensive, and you dont want to waste boards.

After you have rented some boards, go to the local surf shop and talk to the guys about getting your first board. Tell them your WEIGHT, SKILL LEVEL, and wave conditions. Be honest so they can get you a good board that will float you well and be good for you. Remember that used boards are good for beginners too. They might actually be better than a new board for a beginner. Never buy boards online and avoid pop out boards, unless that is all you can afford.

Remember: longboards are better for beginners to learn on because of their volume and buoyancy, but the are NOT beginners boards! You are not going to want to learn on a shortboard, but go to the shop and talk to the guys about the boards. They will get you a good board.
